I’m sorry you haven’t heard much from me just lately but as you know I’ve been reworking my novel after having it critique.
Well, yesterday I met up with Debz Hobbs-Wyatt who did my critique to talk about my novel. We had lunch in Waterstone’s coffee shop in Chelmsford, Essex. I had taken along the outline to my replotted novel, the prologue, and the rewritten first chapter.I sat nervously by while Debz read the prologue and first chapter after she’d finished reading them she said she felt like a school teacher as I looked so worry. J
I said that it’s okay when you show your work to family and friends because they can only tell you what they like about your work, but when it comes to someone professional, they know what is wrong with it.
I’m pleased to report that Debz was pleased to see I had followed her advice. She said that my first chapter showed the same flow that was present in my short stories, that I’d stopped head-hopping, and that my characters had found a voice.
Now I must keep doing the same through the rest of the novel.
Soon I’m off to spend a week in Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Best Wishes to you all,
Paula R C.
Hi Paula, It sounds like its all coming together for you. I'm trying to sort out a very messy first draft so I know where you're coming from with prologues and re-written first chapters.
ReplyDeleteOddly Blogger wouldn't allow my friend to post yesterday. Appears to be a glitch.
Keep pushing the pen, or tapping the keys.
Thank you for your comment, Maria. Good luck with yours too. I don't know what it is with Blogger, but I don't want to up and leave, so hopefully they will sort it out soon.
DeleteI feel the same, I like Blogger, and am loathe to change. I also post from a variety of devices, and that seems to upset the way it works too.
DeleteHi Paula there is a picture of Debz and your self on my blog. I'm sad to see you are having problems with up loading pictures to your blog. Hope to see you and Debz again for coffee.
DeleteNot sure how I ended up on your site from search for info on Chelmsford but just to say you can add a photo through blogger by changing to html format and adding in code manually.
ReplyDeleteBlogger does strange things. I agree that having friends only looking at your stuff doesn't always let you know what needs fixed.
ReplyDeleteAs far as photos goes, mine would not upload till I started reducing the pixels from 3000 odd to a 1000.
ReplyDeleteDid we miss you in Whitby ;) folk music, regatta and all that, very crowded with tourists though.
